Dordt College Baseball vs. Baker

(Baldwin City, Kansas) The Dordt College Defender men's baseball team was swept in their doubleheader with Baker College on Saturday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kansas. The Defenders trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before allowing five runs to the hosts on the way to a 7-2 loss. Dordt got their run on a Dillon Peters single that scored Daryl Visser in the third inning that tied the game for a half inning at 1-1. Evan Pheneger, Visser and Josh Bowers accounted for Dordt's other three hits as the Defenders had four singles in the game and committed five errors in their first live action of the season.
Chris Liebhart, in his first action on the mound for the Defenders since arm trouble ended his 2007 year prematurely, worked two innings with three hits allowed and one run with one strikeout and one base on balls. Keith Kooistra absorbed the loss in two innings of work where he allowed two hits and one run.
Baker was led by Jeremy Wright's 3-3 day at the plate while Aaron Westerhouse knocked in two runs and was 1-4. Baker's Joseph O'Donnell had five innings of work and got the win while allowing three hits and one run.
Dordt is scheduled to play Briar Cliff on March 4 in Sioux City and will go further south at the end of the week against Peru State in Peru, Nebraska. The Defenders are 0-2 while Baker improves to 3-1.
