Dordt College Baseball vs. Northwestern
April 26, 2008
(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders surrendered five runs to Northwestern in the first two innings of their conference baseball game on Saturday in game two of their doubleheader and were kept off balance most of the game by Mike Zoellner in falling 5-3 in Orange City, Iowa. It was the ninth split for the Defenders in baseball in the GPAC this season in 11 doublehaders.
Northwestern got on the board with two runs in the first inning when they capitalized on two hits and an error for a pair of unearned runs. The Red Raiders got three more runs off of Dordt pitcher Patrick Sinnema with four hits in the second frame.
Dordt got one run back in the fourth when Travis Feekes singled and Austin Turner walked. Dillon Peters then singled to score Feekes but the Defender inning ended with no more after getting runners at first and third with no outs. After a scoreless fifth and sixth Dordt made it interesting with a Ben Fife single with one out and Josh Bowers had a double to put runners at first and third. A Feekes groundout scored Fife and Bowers scored on an Austin Turner drive down the rightfield line for a triple. With the tying run at the plate, Dillon Peters lined out to end the game.
Sinnema went the distance, allowing five runs--three of them earned, walked two and struck out three. Mike Zoellner struck out six and walked three while allowing three runs on six hits.
Dordt got six hits from six different players. Feekes, Turner, Peters, De Jong, Bowers and Fife all had base knocks with Bowers and De Jong both doubling and Turner tripling.
