Dordt College Baseball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender baseball team earned a 12-3 win over the Sioux Falls Cougars in game one of their doubleheader on Monday night in Sioux Center.
The Cougars scored three in the fourth to open the scoring, getting a total of five hits in the frame. Dordt got two runs back immediately in the fourth when Bobby Lutke reached on an error and Evan Phenegar singled and Chris Liebhart singled. A Ben Fife sacrifice fly scored a run and Josh Bowers knocked a run in with a single. The Defenders put the game out of reach with ten runs in the fifth inning when Austin Turner reached on an error. Dillon Peters was hit by a pitch and Travis De Jong sacrificed the runners over with a bunt. Lutke was walked intentionally and Phenegar made the Cougars pay with a single that plated two runs. Liebhart then followed with another base hit to score two runs and three walks followed, loading the bases and forcing a run in. Dillon Peters kept the inning going with a single that scored two and Travis De Jong ended the scoring with a towering homerun to leftfield.
Alex Jansen got the win, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three. Brett Swim was the loser for Sioux Falls.
Liebhart was 3-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in while Phenegar had a pair of hits with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
