(Sioux Center, Iowa) Bryan Diemer pitched a four-hitter and the Dordt College Defender baseball team salvaged a split with the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday in GPAC baseball played at Open Space Park in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders scored a pair of runs--one in each of the first two frames, on the way to the 4-0 win, bouncing back from a sub-par outing in game one of the twinbill.

Dordt scored in the first when Bobby Lutke reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on a double by Chris Liebhart all the way from first with two outs in the first inning. Dordt scored again in the second. This time Travis De Jong led off with a walk and Josh Bowers singled. A Ben Fife grounder advanced the runners and a Travis Feekes single pushed Bowers across after Dordt had a runner thrown out at home on fielder's choice for the second out of the inning. Dordt insured the win in the fifth when Feekes doubled and Dillon Peters bunted for a sacrifice. The bunt was misplayed into a three base error with Peters reaching third and Feekes scoring on the play. Lutke then knocked Peters in with a single for the 4-0 win.

Concordia did get the tying run at the plate in the seventh but Diemer ended the game with a strikeout and then coaxed a ground ball out of the final batter for the complete game win with the bases loaded.

Feekes and De Jong each had a pair of hits while Lutke, Liebhart, Evan Pheneger and Bowers accounted for Dordt's other four hits with singles.

Diemers allowed just four hits while striking out four and walking two. Dordt's defense committed one error in the game. Brad Ramp takes the loss for Concordia by working the first five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks.

Dordt is now 8-12 in the GPAC and 11-20 overall while Concordia is 6-12 in the league and 7-30 overall. The GPAC playoff picture will become a bit clearer after this weekend. Dordt is currently in tenth place, but not out of the picture for the eight team playoff field with four games to play. Dordt will face Sioux Falls on Friday, April 25 and Northwestern on April 26 in the last two doubleheaders of the regular season. The non-conference games with Northwestern on Monday, April 21 have been cancelled due to a re-scheduled conference doubleheader for Northwestern.
