Dordt College Baseball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball team lost their second heart-breaker of the night in a 4-3 loss to the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Defenders lost a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning and their comeback rally in the seventh inning fell just short for the second game in a row.

Dordt scored two in the first when Travis Feekes led off with a single and advanced to second base. With two outs, Travis De Jong delivered a single that scored Feekes and Bobby Lutke followed with a single that advanced Morgan Halpert, a courtesy runner for the catcher De Jong, to third base. Halpert then scored on an Evan Pheneger double to go up 2-0 after one half inning.

Wesleyan finally got on the board in the fifth inning with a three run homerun by John Rust. The Prairie Wolves got one more in the sixth and entered the top of the seventh up 4-2. Dordt threatened in the top of the final frame when Pheneger tripled and later scored on a ground out but the next two batters went down with out incident, sending the Defenders to their third straight one-run loss.

Dordt was outhit 9-7 with Pheneger coming a homerun short of the cycle with a 3-3 night at the plate with a run scored and an rbi. Travis De Jong was 2-3 at the plate with run batted in. Travis Feekes and Bobby Lutke accounted for Dordt's other two hits. Daryl Visser took the loss, allowing nine hits, four earned runs, struck out two and walked three. Chris Wahl struck out seven and allowed seven hits with three runs for the win. Dordt slips to 5-9 in the league and 8-17 overall while Nebraska Wesleyan improves to 9-7 in the GPAC and 17-13 overall.
