Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender baseball team dropped game two of their doubleheader with Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota on Tuesday night in conference play, coming home with a split in a pair of games decided by one run each.
Mount Marty got out to a 5-0 lead with a run in the first and four more in the third. Dordt got two back in the fourth when Bobby Lutke singled to right and Evan Pheneger was hit by a pitch. Chris Liebhart singled to right field with Lutke scoring on an error that advanced Pheneger to third base. Pheneger then scored when Josh Bowers hit into a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning.
Dordt got another run in the fifth when Travis Feekes reached on an infield single. Feekes then advanced on a Dillon Peters ground out and Bobby Lutke followed with a single that scored Feekes.
After a scoreless sixth the Defenders tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh inning when Feekes reached on a single and Dillon Peters followed with a single. Travis De Jong bunted for a sacrifice to move the runners up and Evan Pheneger followed with a single that scored both runners for the tie. It wasn't enough though as the Lancers averted extra frames with a walk and a one-out single. After a flyout, the Nate De Wit issued a walk that loaded the bases and a single to centerfield ended the game.
Bryan Diemer was the starter and went three innings, allowing ten hits, five runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Nate De Wit took the loss, going the final three and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and one run with four walks issued and one strikeout. Mount Marty held a slight hitting edge 13-12. Dillon Peters was 3-4 with a run scored and Feekes was 2-4 with two runs scored. Bobby Lutke was 2-4 and Chris Liebhart was 3-4 with Dordt's lone extra base hit, a double, and two singles.
Dordt is now 9-18 overall and 6-10 in the GPAC while Mount Marty is 7-9 in the GPAC and 15-19 overall. Dordt stands two games out of eighth in the GPAC with eight games to play and are four games out of third in the evenly played GPAC.
