Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) After a 13-3 loss in game one of their doubleheader, the Dordt College Defender baseball team forged a split of their conference twinbill in Mitchell, South Dakota against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers.
The Defenders got late inning heroics from Dillon Peters and Bobby Lutke and a complete game win by Daryl Visser--his third win of the season, to get their fourth win of the conference schedule.
Dordt got their first run across in the third inning when Austin Turner singled with two outs and the bases empty. Dillon Peters then doubled him in with a shot to left field.
Wesleyan stranded a runner at third in the fourth inning but broke through with two runs in the fifth inning when they capitalized on four hits for a 2-1 lead. Dordt managed to dodge a bullet in the sixth inning when Wesleyan left runners at first and third setting up the Dordt rally in the seventh.
Jed Bennett singled to lead off the inning and Travis Feekes moved him into scoring position with an out to the pitcher. Austin Turner reached on a shortstop error to put runners at the corners and Dillon Peters knocked in his second run of the game with a single. A Travis De Jong single followed with Turner getting out on the bases. With two outs, Bobby Lutke delivered the eventual game winner with a single down the right field line to plate Peters from second for a 3-2 lead. Wesleyan worked for a one out walk but the runner was stranded at first as Visser slammed the door on any Wesleyan comeback attempt.
Both teams had seven hits with Dordt committing three errors and Wesleyan two. Visser was charged with two earned runs and struck out five and walked two. Thomas Pickett was the loser in relief with four hits and two runs allowed.
Dillon Peters was 2-4 with two runs batted in, a double, a single and a run scored. De Jong, Turner, Lutke, Josh Bowers and Bennett accounted for the other Dordt College hits.
Dordt stranded nine and Wesleyan ten in the game.
Dordt is now 7-12 overall and 4-6 in the GPAC heading into a doubleheader with Briar Cliff in Sioux Center on Saturday. Wesleyan is 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the GPAC.
