Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender baseball team lost a 13-3 six inning decision at the hands of the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in game one of their doubleheader in Mitchell, South Dakota on Friday, April 4.
Wesleyan got one run across in the first inning with a couple of hits and a Dordt error for a 1-0 lead. Dordt took the lead in the second inning when Bobby Lutke singled to start the inning. Two batters and two outs later Derek Peters was hit by a pitch to extend the inning and Ben Fife singled to load the bases. A Travis Feekes double knocked in two runs and an Austin Turner single later got Fife in from third base. It was the only offense Dordt would muster as Dakota Wesleyan got one run back in the third inning and then took the lead back with three runs in the fifth inning, knocking Dordt's starter, Alex Jansen out in the process. Dordt couldn't hold Wesleyan off in the sixth frame, allowing eight runs and the game ended with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and Wesleyan in front by the ten-run rule margin.
Dordt was outhit 12-7 and committed three errors. Travis Feekes had a pair of hits as did Ben Fife with both players going 2-3. Both of Fife's hits were singles and Feekes had a double and a single. Travis De Jong knocked a double in the loss and was 1-2 while Bobby Lutke and Austin Turner had Dordt's other two hits.
Alex Jansen took the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs--four of them earned and walked three in four and two-thirds innings. Liebhart went one inning and allowed three runs--two of them earned and wasn't involved in the decision. Nate De Wit faced three batters in the sixth inning.
Wesleyan's Chris Dennis was the winner--allowing three runs on seven hits and Josh Pritt had three hits and two runs batted in for the Tigers.
Wesleyan moved to 4-3 in the league and 11-9 overall while Dordt is now 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the GPAC.
