Dordt College Baseball vs. Doane
March 28, 2008
(Crete, Nebraska) A six run first inning propelled the Dordt College Defender baseball team to a 7-4 win over the Doane Tigers in Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball in Crete, Nebraska on Friday, March 28. The Defenders managed a split of the twinbill to start their weekend in Nebraska.
Dordt chased Doane starter Dexter Spitsnogle with one out in the first inning, taking advantage of a Doane error, two bases on balls and a hit batsman and three hits to charge him with six runs and the loss. Travis De Jong got the scoring going with a single in the first that got Austin Turner in. Turner reached initially on an error.
Bobby Lutke followed with a run scoring single and Derek Peters smacked a two-run single to keep the threat going. Jed Bennett also got a run in with a single, one of nine singles the Defenders hit on Friday in game two of the doubleheader.
Doane did get three runs back in the second off Dordt starter Alex Jansen but the Defenders didn't let the Tigers get closer than 6-4 as they plated one more run in the fourth on a Travis Feekes single followed by a Dillon Peters single and a Lutke rbi base hit for the final of 7-4.
Jansen went the distance, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out six. Dillon Peters and Lutke each had two hits and a run scored a piece and Derek Peters had two runs batted in while going 1-3.
Marshall Carr pitched in relief of Spitsnogle and kept Doane close with six hits allowed and one earned run with one base on balls. Jansen got the complete game win, allowing one earned run out of the four scored and scattered eight hits.
