Dordt College Baseball vs. Dana

(Blair, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball team bounced back from a disappointing loss in game one of their doubleheader with Dana to get a split with the Vikings by taking a 10-5 decision in game two of the conference opening doubleheader for both teams.
The Defenders came back from an early deficit and pulled away from a 5-5 tie by plating five runs in the top of the seventh inning for the five run win and their fourth victory of the season.
The Defenders knocked out 11 hits and committed one error while Dana was limited to eight hits for the day. Josh Bowers pushed across the winning run with a double in the seventh that broke the 5-5 tie with Evan Pheneger scoring with one out in the frame.
Bowers was 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored with a double and a single. Pheneger had a pair of singles and scored two runs. Dillon Peters and Austin Turner also had a pair of hits each for the Defenders with Peters knocking a double and Turner had a triple. Daryl Visser was the winning pitcher, working two perfect innings of relief. Visser relieved Kyle Dieleman who threw five innings and allowed five runs--four of them earned with three walks, nine hits and three strikeouts.
The Defenders are now 4-7 and 1-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference while Dana is 4-9 overall and 1-1 in the league as well.
Dordt will travel to Morningside on Monday, March 24 for a conference doubleheader and are scheduled to host Doane and Hastings on Friday and Saturday of next week.
