Dordt College Baseball vs. Dana

(Blair, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball team was unable to capitalize on two late two run leads in a 13-12 10-inning conference decision against Dana in Blair, Nebraska.
The Defenders came back from a 8-6 deficit in with two runs in the sixth inning to force extra frames. After a scoreless eighth, both teams scored two in the ninth. Dordt tacked on two more in the top of the tenth for a 12-10 lead but the hosts came back with three more in the bottom of the inning for a 13-12 win.
Dordt banged out 17 hits while Dana had 18 but were done in partly by four errors on defense. Austin Turner was 4-7 at the plate with a homerun, a double and four runs batted in. Josh Bowers was 3-5 with a homeruns and a double and Dillon Peters managed to go 2-3 with two bases on balls, was hit by two pitches and banged out an rbi. Travis Feekes also had three hits with two runs scored in the loss.
Chris Liebhart was saddled with the loss, going five innings in relief, allowing six hits, five runs--three of them earned and struck out four. Alex Jansen was the starter and went four innings, allowing seven hits, six runs--four of them earned. Daryl Visser pitched one inning of relief and was charged with two runs.
Dordt took the lead in the ninth inning when the Defenders scored a pair of unearned runs after the first two batters were retired. Dana came right back with a pair of runs with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Liebhart forced the game to a tenth frame when he struck out three batters in a row with runners at first and second. Austin Turner and Feekes each had a run batted in in the tenth inning but the inning ended with the bases loaded. Dana then won the game with three runs and four hits in the tenth inning. Dordt did not retire a batter in the last inning. The game was the conference opener for both teams.
