Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) Mount Marty swept the Defenders in their non-conference doubleheadert, winning game two 6-4.
The Lancers struck for five runs in the first inning on six hits. The Defenders got one back in the second when Bryan Geels lifted a sacrifice fly to rightfield that scores Dillon Peters. Dordt scrapped back with another two runs in the third inning when Travis De Jong was hit by a pitch with two outs. Chris Liebhart then singled to right to advance pinchrunner Alex Jansen to second. Dillon Peters delivered a single that scored a run and Daane doubled in Liebhart.
A Mount Marty run in the fifth gave them a 6-3 advantage and the Defenders could respond only with a solo homerun by Travis Feekes with one out in the sixth. The Defenders had the tying run on base in the sixth and again in the seventh with one out but couldn't get it across.
After a rough start Bryan Diemer settled down and took the loss, allowing one run on four hits after the costly first inning. Diemer took the loss, working the complete game. Peters and Daane both had two hits with Daane belting a pair of doubles.
Dordt is now 5-19 overall and stand 3-9 in the conference heading into a pair of doubleheaders this weekend, traveling to Concordia and Midland Lutheran this weekend for a total of four conference tilts.
