Dordt College Baseball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender baseball team lost an 8-5 decision to Northwestern on Thursday night in non-conference baseball in Orange City. The Defenders scored two in the second when Jed Bennett and Nate Daane knocked out back to back doubles to plate two runs. Dordt failed to make the inning even bigger, leaving the bases full. Northwestern responded with seven earned runs in the bottom of the inning.
Dordt did muster a rally, scoring three in the fourth, one on a passed ball and the other two on an Eric Van Maanen double. Northwestern scored a run for insurance in the sixth for the 8-5 win. knocked out a double to score a run and Nate Daane had a single to stake Dordt to a 2-0 lead.
Derek Greydanus was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs on five hits and Nate De Wit finished the game for the Defenders on the mound, striking out four and allowing two runs. Northwestern's Brad Payne earned the win, going four innings with five runs allowed.
The Defenders left nine runners stranded to Northwestern's six. Dordt was outhit 10-8. Eric Van Maanen and Nate Daane each had two hits and a double a piece while Dillon Peters, Travis De Jong, Derek Peters and Jed Bennett all had a hit. Van Maanen and Dillon Peters both had two bases on balls.
Dordt travels to Sioux Falls to face the Cougars on Friday beginning at 4:00 and will take on Northwestern in Sioux Center in the season finale on Saturday at 1:00.
Dordt is 6-24 while Northwestern improves to 28-11.
