Dordt College Baseball vs. Rogers State
March 19, 2007
(Claremont, Oklahoma) Rogers State (OK) made it a sweep of the Dordt College Defenders in baseball play on Monday in non-conference action with a 12-2 six inning decision.
The Hillcats scored three in the third, another three in the fourth an tacked on two more in the fifth. Dordt got their lone two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a run scoring single by Chris Liebhart that plated pinch-runner Travis Feekes and Scott Van Zanten got another run across with a sacrifice fly. Rogers State ended the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when they got a ten-run difference for the 12-2 win.
Five different Defenders accounted for the five hits Dordt College smacked. Eric Van Maanen, Jed Bennett, Derek Peters and Chris Liebhart all had singles while Dillon Peters had a double and a run scored. Kyle Dieleman went 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and struck out three while taking the loss and Bryan Diemer worked an inning and a third, allowing four runs and striking out three while giving up six hits.
"Rogers State was a very good team," said Dordt coach Jeff Schouten. "They'd fare very well in the GPAC. They had strong hitters--every ball they hit was a line drive."
Dordt is now 2-8 and will face Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday in a single-nine inning affair before opening GPAC play this weekend. Rogers State improved to 21-13 and have won four games in a row over GPAC teams (Hastings and Dordt).
