Dordt College Baseball vs. Northwestern
April 28, 2007
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender baseball team got a split in their conference battle with Northwestern on Saturday to close the 2007 season on a winning note. Dordt's Nate Daane was masterful on the mound, scattering six hits while striking out two in the 4-1 decision.
Northwestern got their lone run in the second inning when Justin Lane knocked a run in with a double. Northwestern's next best threat came in the top of the seventh when they got runners at first and second but failed to convert a hit that would have extended the inning.
Dordt scored all of their runs with two outs. In the third the Defenders got Derek Peters on with a walk. Dillon Peters eventually moved him to second with a single and then Jeremy Hilt delivered a single to tie the game at one. Travis De Jong then gave Dordt the lead with a double that scored a pair. Dordt got one for insurance in the sixth inning when Bobby Lutke walked, was replaced by pinch runner Travis Feekes and Jed Bennett sacrificed him to second with two outs. Josh Bowers then delivered a single that scored Feekes.
Daane earns his third win of the season to close the year 3-2 for the Defenders.
Dordt made the most of their four hits with all of them either resulting in the batter eventually scoring or the hit knocked in a run. Dillon Peters and Jeremy Hilt were both 1-2 while Travis De Jong and Josh Bowers were both 1-3.
Joe Grady took the loss for Northwestern, working six innings, allowing four runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Justin Lane was 2-2 with a double and an RBI for Northwestern.
