Dordt College Baseball vs. Midland Lutheran

(Fremont, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders capitalized on a two-out error by Midland Lutheran Saturday afternoon in the second game of their doubleheader to force a split of the Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Dordt loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, trailing 2-1 when Eric Van Maanen and Scott Van Zanten had back to back singles. With two outs Derek Peters was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Bryan Geels put the ball in play in the next at-bat. Midland Lutheran's third baseman sailed his throw wide to first and Van Maanen and Van Zanten both scored. Midland did not score in the seventh and Dordt took their fourth win of the conference season.
Dordt's other run came in the sixth when Dillon Peters doubled with two outs and Jeremy Hilt knocked him in with a single.
Nate Daane earned the win, allowing five hits, two runs--one of which was earned with a walk and nine strikeouts. Eric Van Maanen had two hits and a run scored. Hilt was 1-3 while Peters was 1-4 and Van Zanten 1-3. Chris Kortus took the loss for Midland Lutheran in 6 1/3 innings of work with three strikeouts and five hits allowed.
Dordt is now 4-12 in the league and 6-22 overall while Midland Lutheran is 9-7 and 16-22. Dordt will host Morningside on Tuesday, April 24 beginning at 4:00 in GPAC play.
