Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt lost in a heartbreaker in the second game of a double header in Sioux Center. Dakota Wesleyan scored 3 runs in the top of the 14th to win, 8-5.
Dordt went down early falling behind 3-0 through 3 innings. Dordt scored 4 in the 5th when Dillon Peters singled in Eric Van Maanen and Travis De Jong singled in Scott Van Zanten. Travis Feekes reached on an error where another run scored. The Defenders left two stranded in the inning that ended on a doubleplay. Dordt tied the game with one in the 6th when Van Zanten was hit by a pitch and Dillon Peters reached with one out on an error. Travis De Jong loaded the bases with a single and Bobby Lutke lifted a fly ball to right field that scored Van Zanten to tie the game at 5.
Dordt's best chance to win the game came in the 13th inning when a Travis Feekes shot up the middle was flagged down by the Wesleyan shortstop and flipped to second for the third out of the inning, preventing the winning run from scoring on a basehit. Dordt gave up 3 runs in the 14th making 3 errors and allowing 4 hits.
Dordt recorded 5 runs on 13 hits and commited 8 errors. De Jong marked 3 hits with Van Zanten, Dillon Peters and Derek Peters all recording 2. Nate Daane pitched 12 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Daryl Visser pitched the final 2 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs and was saddled with the loss. Dordt drops to 1-7 in league play, losing three close contests with the two teams, Briar Cliff and Dakota Wesleyan, who are at the top of the conference standings. Dordt is scheduled to host Morningside on Tuesday, April 10 at 4:00 in their next action. Wesleyan goes to 7-1 in league play and are 17-10 overall.
