Dordt College Baseball vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender baseball team lost the opener of their doubleheader with Doane College on Tuesday night at Open Space Park in Sioux Center. The Tigers scored a run in the first and the Defenders tied it with a run in the third when Eric Van Maanen scored on a Jeremy Hilt sacrifice fly after reaching on a single.
Doane got three unearned runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead but the Defenders answered back with a homerun off the bat of Travis De Jong and Eric Van Maanen doubled in Chris Liebhart in the bottom of the sixth. Doane got an insurance run in the seventh and Dordt was unable to answere.
Kyle Dieleman took the loss in relief of Alex Jansen who left the game after five innings of work with the score tied.
Jansen surrendered one run on five hits while striking out three. Dieleman was saddled with the loss despite giving up just one earned run. Van Maanen had two of Dordt's three hits with Travis De Jong getting the other on his sixth inning solo homerun.
Jacob Diekman started for Doane and worked one two outs into the sixth inning for the win and Matt Rediger got the save.
