Wellspring

"Wellspring is a time to sit in silence, to let go of the busyness of the day and commune with God."

--Jeff Gutierrez

"Wellspring is a time of refreshment. It's a place where I can go to be alone with God and not feel any pressure to do anything or be anyone in particular."

--Rebecca Postma

Wellspring attempts to complement what is already happening at Dordt in terms of worship opportunities: GIFT, Chapel, and Praise and Worship. Wellspring offers students a quiet place of rest and reflection. In a noisy and hurried world, a service that highlights simplicity, reflection, silence and prayer can often feel like a breath of fresh air. This contemplative worship time typically takes place on alternate Sunday evenings to GIFT at 8:30 p.m.

The songs at Wellspring are structured as prayers. Because of their simplicity, they offer a unique and needed chance to rest, while encouraging quiet reflection on how the prayer intersects with one's life. There is no official speaker or "sermon" in a Wellspring service. Instead there is a facilitator who moves the service along, gives instruction, and facilitates a guided time of reflection or spiritual exercise. These exercises are designed to invite students to consider more deeply God's activity in the world, in the community, and in themselves.
