Meet The Team
Larissa Brown

Larissa Brown--Has been rock solid in goal for the Lady Defenders as a sophomore and junior. Held opponents to a 1.4 goals against average as a junior and 1.5 as a sophomore. Has 208 saves in goal over the past two seasons.

Coach E says: "Larissa is a steady, consistent performer, capable of making big saves under pressure. Her calmness belies her competitive nature and ability to get the job done."

Callie Christensen

Callie Christensen

Coach E says: "Callie's skills and determination effectively close down the space she defends. Offensively minded, she looks to move up on the attack when possible."

Suzanne Clark

Suzanne Clark--Adjusted quickly to the college game in earning GPAC honorable mention honors. Does many things well for the Lady Defenders that can't be measured in goals and assists.

Coach E says: "Suzanne is a flexible player who has the skill and versatility to play anywhere on the field. Her poise and experience add to our back line strength."

Kristin Crandall

Kristin Crandall--Captained her Mount Vernon varsity team and has club soccer experience.

Coach E says: "Kristin's speed and tenacity make her an important component to an experienced back line. We look to her as part of the future of the defensive unit."

Alanna Dake

Alanna Dake--Was an all-conference performer last season for Southwest Christian High School and earned honorable mention honors as a junior.

Coach E says: "A skilled player whose experience allows her to create an outside threat as well as assisting in defensive duties."

Nicki De Blaey

Nicki De Blaey--Burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2002 with a 12 goal, three assist season. Followed up with a solid seven goal, four assist sophomore campaign and honorable mention honors from the GPAC.

Coach E says: "Nicki is a physically strong player who is difficult to push off the ball. Her shot is a continuous threat that draws opponents' best defenders."

Beth De Jonge

Beth De Jonge--Played organized soccer for the first time in three years last year after focusing on basketball and track as a freshman and sophomore. Had a pair of assists last season and played substantial minutes.

Coach E says: "Even though this is just Beth's second year with us, her speed and aggressive approach to the gamve have been an asset both offensively and defensively. She is a continual threat at both ends of the field."

Flo Haringsma

Flo Haringsma--Has earned opponents' respect as a defensive player as shown in her being selected as an honorable all-conference selection as a junior.

Coach E says: "Flo is a Southern California player whose experience has made her a consistent defender who is difficult to beat. Her sense of timing continually frustrates opponents."

Anna Hubers

Anna Hubers

Coach E says: "Anna's speed and quick release on the shot deserve constant attention. Her capacity to create opportunities through pressure and hard work makes her dangerous."

Angie Katsma

Angie Katsma--is a big reason the Lady Defenders' goals allowed against average has dropped substantially in the past two seasons. Played immediately as a freshman, earning all-conference honors. Had three assists as a freshman, a goal and five assists in her second season and four goals and two assists last year. Was an NAIA scholar-athlete as a junior and a GPAC second-team selection.

Coach E says: "Angie is a physical presence who is tough to get around. Her tenacity along with her aggressive play make angie an effective defender. Her ability to challenge opponents in the air for the ball adds to our defensive strength."

Heather Kooistra

Heather Kooistra--Earned all-conference honors as a high school senior and was voted her team's most valuable player.

Coach E says: "Has a great sense of timing both with and without the ball. Being or supporting the attack, Heather knows when to hold and release the ball which allows control of the midfield."

Bethany Nishimoto

Bethany Nishimoto--Picked up collegiate soccer as a sophomore at Dordt College. Was named the NAIA National Player of the Week as a sophomore and scored 11 goals and assisted on two others that year. With defenses keying on her more as a junior she was able to find the net 15 times to lead the Lady Defenders and assisted on four other goals. Led the team in points with 34. Earned second team All-GPAC honors as a junior.

Coach E says: "Bethany is best known in the conference for her explosive speed and her ability to get behind defenders and create chaos. She is always dangerous on the field."

Anne Oppeneer

Anne Oppeneer

Coach E says: "An aggressive forward who looks to attack on every play. Has the ability to serve the ball accurately as well as score effectively."

Heather Otten

Heather Otten--Put together a solid freshman year with two goals and two assists while earning GPAC honorable mention. Gives the Lady Defenders another offensive option.

Coach E says: "Heather is a versatile player whose experience and knowledge make her an effective midfielder. Her ability to defend and distribute the ball on the attack makes her a continual threat."

Vanessa Patino

Vanessa Patino--A South High School graduate from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Has taken a couple years off from organized soccer. Was a part of a co-ed soccer team that won their division at the Wisconsin Badger State Games.

Coach E says: "A versatile palyer with quickness whose aggressive style and work rate make her difficult to beat. Sharing duties with the offense, she is not afraid to join the attack."

Karissa Phelps

Karissa Phelps--Two goals last season as a freshman.

Coach E says: "Karissa is a utility player who has the ability to join the attack as well as containing opponents' forwards. A competive spirit and calm head make her an effective threat."

Erin Piersma

Erin Piersma--Has proven herself to be a capable backup goalkeeper to Larissa Brown. Played important minutes for the Lady Defenders as a sophomore when Brown was out with injury.

Coach E says: "Erin has great energy and an excellent work rate. She looks to make the team better through her enthusiasm and leadership in training."

Stephanie Schippers

Stephanie Schippers--Struggled with injury as a junior and was named an NAIA scholar-athlete. Has totaled six goals and three assists the last two seasons.

Coach E says: "Steph is a hardworking, intense competitor who enjoys defending and attacking opponents' best players. She has been effective in adding timely goals."

Abbie Soodsma

Abbie Soodsma--Came on strong at the end of last season. An outstanding athlete who also runs track. Had five goals and six assists and was third on the team in points.

Coach E says: "Abbie's speed has made a quick midfield even faster. As a fierce competitor she is capable of outdistancing opponents as well as scoring timely goals."

Jenny Van Laan

Jenny Van Laan--Was a part of a team that advanced to the district finals in both her junior and senior year. Had six career goals with four assists.

Coach E says: "A fast, tenacious midfielder who looks to work her way into the midfield through time and experience."
