2007-08 Women's Basketball: Meet The Team

Julia De Koekkoek Julia De Koekkoek
FR, Edmonds, Washington

Led Shoreline Christian High School (Washington) to a fifth place finish at the state tournament this winter. Put in 18.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and earned all-state honors along with being her league's most valuable player. Led the 2007 state tournament in scoring.
Kelsie De Nooy Kelsie De Nooy
JR, Denver, Colorado

Appeared in 29 games and started four for the Defenders. Averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, had 27 steals, and converted on 43 percent of her shots from the floor. Scored a season-high 17 points in a win over North Central in 2007. Played on the junior varsity team as a freshman.
Kate Du Mez Kate Du Mez
SO, Brookfield, Wisconsin

Earned GPAC honorable mention honors after averaging 11 points, 1.9 steals, and 2.9 rebounds during her first season with the Defenders. Started 24 out of 28 games played in which she dished out a team high 89 assists. Scored a career best 22 points versus Dana on February 17th.

SR, Atwater, Minnesota

Was the only player to start all 30 games last season. Named GPAC honorable mention last season after averaging 9.7 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game. Was the conference leader in offensive rebounds with 109. Scored a season high 22 points and grabbed a season and career best 18 rebounds against Dakota Wesleyan on February 14. Played in all Dordt's games as a sophomore and averaged 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. Put up 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds as a freshman.

FR, St. John, Indiana

Played basketball for Illiana Christian High School (Illinois) where she averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 steals, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while leading the Vikings in scoring, steals and assists. Was co-mvp of her conference as a senior and earned all-area and all-conference honors.
Erin Savery Erin Savery
JR, Pella, Iowa

Started 21 out of 30 games last season for the Defenders. Averaged 5 points, 3.4 rebounds per game and handed out 50 assists. Was second on the team in steals with 40 and converted on 34 percent of her three-point shots and 78 percent of her free throws. Scored a season high 13 points against Jamestown on November 3 and grabbed eight rebounds against Nebraska Wesleyan on January 20. Played in 26 games as a freshman and averaged 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds.
McKinzie Schmidt McKinzie Schmidt
SO, Gordon, Nebraska

Played in 29 games and started 18 in her first year at Dordt. Averaged 5.9 points and 5.3 rebounds and had 23 steals. Schmidt was second on the team in defensive rebounds with 105. Grabbed a season high 13 rebounds and scored a season best 13 points in wins over North Central and Briar Cliff respectively.

FR, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

Averaged 9.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game at Concordia Academy (Minnesota) with 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Converted on over 48 percent of her shots from the field and closed her high school career with 991 points.

FR, Hudsonville, Michigan

Averaged 13 points, 5.3 rebounds, three steals and two assists per game for Unity Christian High School (Michigan) and earned first-team all-state honors along with first team all-area and Detroit Free Press second-team all-state honors along with several other all-area and all-conference accolades.
