2007-08 Men's Basketball: Meet The Team

Brian Eekhoff
SR, Manhattan, Montana
Was one of two players to start all 33 games for the Defenders last season. Earned honorable mention honors from the GPAC with his 12.2 point and team-leading 6.5 rebound per game averages. Had a season high 26 points versus Dana on February 17th and grabbed a season high 11 rebounds on four different occasions. Averaged 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds as a sophomore in 28 games.

Michael Eekhoff
SO, Sioux Center, Iowa
Joined the Defenders at the semester break after transferring from Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa. Appeared in 13 games and averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds as an incoming freshman. Totaled 9 steals and 27 assists in those 13 games. Had a season-high 13 points in Dordt's tournament game with Northwestern on February 24.

Jonathon Ferrie
SO, Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Averaged 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 31 games played in his first season at Dordt. Converted 55 percent of his shots from the field. Scored a season high 6 points against both Northwestern and North Central (Minnesota).

Russ Griese
SR, Platte, South Dakota
Played in 29 games for Dordt despite an in-season knee injury. Averaged 5.9 points and 2.1 rebounds as a junior. Spent two seasons at Minnesota West Community College in Worthington, Minnesota. Scored a season high 19 points against Morningside on November 29.

Chad Huenink
SR, Brookfield, Wisconsin
Played in all 33 games last season and averaged 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Had a team-leading 63 percent success rate on his field goal attempts. Had a season high 12 points on November 15th against Grace and then again against Northwestern. Saw action in every game as both a sophomore and freshman averaging 4.4 and 4.6 points per game respectively.

Logan Kingma
SO, Hawarden, Iowa
Had a successful freshman season while starting 29 out of Dordt's 33 games. Averaged 10 points and 4.6 rebounds while leading the team with 27 blocked shots in his rookie year. Earned GPAC honorable mention honors while also being named GPAC Freshman of the Year. Scored a season high 25 points at Grand View on December 2.

Carlie Landegent
SO, Inwood, Iowa
Saw playing time in 27 games last season as a freshman. Averaged 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds and blocked 10 shots. Had a season best 13 points in a win over Dakota State on December 12.

JR, Orange City, Iowa
Played in 19 games for the Defenders. Averaged just over a point and an assist per game and had 12 steals.

Mark Rowenhorst
JR, Orange City, Iowa
Played guard for Dordt in 30 games last season. Had 44 assists and 22 steals and averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Made 46 percent of his shots from the field and shot 37 percent from behind the three-point line. Scored a season-high 27 points against Morningside on January 24. Appeared in 32 games as a freshman and averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Josh Taylor
FR, Hallam, Nebraska
Scored 12.1 points per game as a senior at Norris High School (Nebraska) making 50 percent of his field goal attempts. Dished out 2.2 assists, grabbed 3.0 rebounds and took away 1.9 steals per game. Was a first-team all-conference performer and was an honorable mention Class B all-state honoree.

Eric Van Maanen
SR, Doon, Iowa
Started all 33 games for the Defenders and led the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game, shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the three-point arc. Earned 1st team All-GPAC honors in 2007. Scored a career high 29 points Nebraska Christian on November 11th. Averaged 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds as a sophomore and appeared in 21 games his freshman season.

Chris Van Roekel
FR, Hull, Iowa
Averaged 19 points and eight rebounds for Unity Christian High School (Iowa). Helped the Knights to a Class 2A state championship in 2005. Earned first-team All-War Eagle Conference honors as a senior and was an honorable mention honoree as a junior.

Scott Van Zanten
JR, Pella, Iowa
Played in 31 games and started 29 in 2006-2007 despite sitting out a couple games with an eye injury. Earned GPAC honorable-mention honors after averaging 9.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Had 54 steals and 43 assists and converted on 46 percent of his shots from the field. Scored a season high 18 points at Graceland last season. Was named GPAC Freshman of the Year after the 2005-2006 season when he averaged 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in his first season at Dordt.

Played at Bradenton Christian High School (Florida). Missed most of his senior season with a torn ACL. Averaged 19 points, seven assists and four steals per game through three games. Averaged 10.2 points, 6.1 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a junior. Earned first team all-conference honors as a junior and helped Bradenton Christian to a state tournament semifinal berth.
