2006-07 Men's Basketball: Meet The Team

Brian Eekhoff
JR, Manhattan, Montana
Averaged 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 28 appearances for the Defenders as a sophomore. Was a fifty percent shooter from the field and converted 83 percent of his free throw attempts. Had season highs in points and rebounds against Dakota State on December 29 with 12 points and seven rebounds. Played in 21 games as a freshman.

Michael Eekhoff

Jonathon Ferrie
FR, Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Transferred to Dordt College after a red-shirt season at Northern State (South Dakota). Played high school basketball for Dell Rapids St. Mary's where he helped them to a runner-up finish in the 2005 South Dakota Class B state tournament. Was named a second-team all-conference honoree after the 2004-2005 season.

Russ Griese
JR, Platte, South Dakota
Spent two seasons at Minnesota West Community College where he averaged 12 points per game before transferring to Dordt to continue his athletic career and his pursuit of a degree in agriculture. Prepped at Platte High School in Platte, South Dakota, averaging 21 points and ten rebounds per game while earning second-team all-state honors and first-team all-conference honors.

Chad Huenink
JR, Brookfield, Wisconsin
Saw minutes in all of the Defenders' games last year and averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while converting 53 percent of his shots from the field. Had a career high 14 points against Martin Luther on December 6 and nine rebounds against Midland Lutheran on December 3. Played in all 26 games for the Defenders as a freshman and averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Derek Keizer
SR, Hull, Iowa
Played in all but four games for Dordt College last season while averaging 6.5 points and 5.5 assists per game while totaling 155 for the season. Had a season high 13 points three times and dished out 10 assists in a game against Grand View on January 9. Started all 26 games for Dordt as a sophomore and averaged 7.1 points and 5.4 assists per outing. Also averaged 4.2 points and appeared in 28 games as a freshman. Ranks second in career assists at Dordt College with 370 and sixth in steals with 140.

Logan Kingma
FR, Hawarden, Iowa
Played a variety of roles for the Unity Knights the last three seasons. Averaged double figures for the Knights as a junior and senior. Claimed all-conference honors in the War Eagle conference two years in a row and also took all-Northwest Iowa Review honors as a junior and senior. Was named to the 2005 Iowa High School State Basketball all-tournament team as he helped Unity to a state title in Class 2A.

Averaged 16.5 points and 11.3 rebounds last season for the Western Wolfpack while also blocking two shots per game. Was named to the all-Lakes Conference first team and also claimed a spot on the Sioux City Journal's all-Northwest Iowa third-team.

Spent last season playing predominately on the Dordt College Junior Varsity team and appeared in one varsity contest for the Defenders. Is a Unity Christian graduate.

Mark Rowenhorst
SO, Orange City, Iowa
Enjoyed a successful freshman season where he averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. Made 50 percent of his shots from the floor and 41 percent of his three-point attempts. Appeared in 32 games and started eight in 2005-2006 and had a season high 22 points in the game with Northwestern on February 28.

JR, Doon, Iowa
Played in 32 games and started one for the Defenders while averaging 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in his sophomore season. Scored 15 points in a loss to Doane College on February 4. Played in 21 games for the Defenders in 2004-2005.

Scott Van Zanten
SO, Pella, Iowa
Was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference freshman of the year last season starting all 32 games and playing an average of 26 minutes a game. Averaged 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Hit for double figures in points eleven times and had a season high 14 points against Grand View on December 30.

Appeared in 21 games last season and averaged a point a game. Had a season high four points against Nebraska Wesleyan on January 21. Played in 26 games as sophomore and averaged two points per game and also saw action in eighteen games as a freshman during the 2003-2004 season.
