Meet The Men's Basketball Team

Josh Boyer

Josh Boyer--Played in all 26 games for Dordt College last season averaging two points per game and 1.5 rebounds per outing. Scored eight points against Buena Vista (November 8) and Dana (February 5).

Brian Eekhoff

Brian Eekhoff--Appeared in 21 games last season averaging about a point and a rebound per game. Had four points against Hastings (January 22).

Chad Huenink

Chad Huenink--Earned time in all 26 games for the Defenders last season as a freshman. Averaged 4.5 points and three rebounds per contest. Had a season high 13 points against Graceland (November 13).

Eric Van Maanen

Eric Van Maanen--Saw action in 21 games last season and averaged 1.8 points per contest. Had a season high 10 points against Dakota Wesleyan (February 16).

Matt Berkenpas

Matt Berkenpas--Averaged 7.7 points per game and grabbed 5.4 rebounds while playing for the Dordt College junior varsity team in 2004-2005.

Derek Keizer

Derek Keizer--Started 26 games for the Defenders as a sophomore averaging 7.1 points and 5.4 assists per contest. Made 49 percent of his shots from the floor including 48 percent of his three pointers (22-46). Had 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against Martin Luther (February 8). Had a season high 11 assists against Doane (January 29). Put in 4.2 points and averaged three assists per game as a freshman when he appeared in 28 games.

Kris Vander Kooy

Kris Vander Kooy--Played in 26 games as a sophomore and averaged two points per game. Saw action in 18 games during the 2003-2004 season. Had a season high nine points against Hastings (January 22).

Jim Brinks

Jim Brinks--Played 26 games and started two last season while averaging 5.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Made 53 percent of his shots and had a season high 12 points against Northwestern (February 2). Scored in double-digits six times. Played in 27 games as a sophomore while averaging 4.5 points per game.

Brandon Haan

Brandon Haan--One of three Defenders to start all 26 games for Dordt College last season while earning All-GPAC 2nd team honors. Scored 15.3 points per game and grabbed 6.7 rebounds per contest-tops on the team. Was among the national leaders all season in field goal percentage making 64 percent of his shots (155-242). Took over a starting role nine games into his sophomore season when he averaged 10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds. Is within striking distance of the 1000 point club with 694 career points. Had a season high 30 points against Dana (February 5) and 14 rebounds against Northwestern (February 2). Registered five double-doubles as a junior.

Luke Ruter

Luke Ruter--A two-time All-GPAC first-team selection and a NAIA All-American honorable mention pick in 2004 and 2005. Averaged a team-high 18.9 points per game to go along with a 4.8 rebounds per game pace. Made 52 percent of his shots last season (166-320) and 45 percent of his 3-point shots (50-112). Joined the 1000 point club last season and stands at 1199 career points-9th all-time. Scored 15.9 points and grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore and put in 9.3 points per game as a freshman. Scored in double-digits in all but one game last season and scored over 20 points 13 times. Scored a season-high 26 points three different times against Nebraska Wesleyan (December 11), Martin Luther (February 8) and Briar Cliff (February 19). Grabbed 11 rebounds against Graceland (November 13).

Scott Van Zanten

Scott Van Zanten--Played multiple roles for Pella Christian last season while helping them to a 20-5 mark. Averaged 14.7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3.5 assists per game while earning all-conference honors in the Little Hawkeye Conference and 1st Team Class 2A All-State honors. Lead the Eagles to a Class 2A state tournament berth in 2004.

Mark Rowenhorst

Mark Rowenhorst--Averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and made 43 percent of his three-point shots while helping Unity Christian to a Class 2A State Championship in 2005. Earned War Eagle all-conference first-team honors along with 2nd Team Class 2A All-State honors.
