A 2006 graduate of Northern Michigan Christian, Diemer posted a 16-14 record as a junior and senior, while striking out a combined 265 batters. He recorded a 2.77 earned run average in 2006 and batted .435. Diemer was an all-Region honorable mention selection by the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
