Jubilee: a Comedy in Five Acts
by Steve Wiersum
Spring, 2005
Jubilee: a Comedy in Five Acts by Steve Wiersum (Dordt grad 1986) was the winner of the Dordt Jubilee playwriting contest.
Steve, a high school English teacher in the Chicago area, was an active participant in the Dordt theatre program, appearing on the Te Paske stage in Romeo and Juliet and Kingdom Come.
Jubilee required the acting skills of thirty-two actors (including seven children) and building, painting, sewing, stage managing, lighting, sound, house managing, makeup, skills of just as many.
Like a church, theatre is a community. It is not a building, not a play, and not one director's vision, but an amazing collaboration of energy and devotion - each individual contributing their own unique gift - and all given with thanks and honor to our Creator.
I am thankful for the opportunity to work with all the individuals involved in this production and, as usual, grateful for the gift of theatre.
Director,
April Hubbard
