Campus-Community Band

The Campus-Community Band is a group of 40 to 60 instrumentalists who perform significant literature for wind and percussion. With the addition of interested community members (including high school students with a teacher's recommendation), the band consists mostly of music majors, freshmen, and local musicians.

Professor Henry Duitman is the conductor of Campus-Community Band. He came to Dordt as Director of Instrumental Music in 1985 and has developed the ensemble offerings to include Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and the Northwest Iowa as well as the Campus-Community Band.

The Campus-Community Band has performed the following:
  • Rough Riders March by Karl King
  • The Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg
  • Gallito by Lope
  • Border Festival by Williams
  • Tijuana Taxi by Cook
  • Carnaval in São Paulo by Barnes
  • Mam-Bop by Sandoval
  • Fandango by Alpert
  • The Procession of the Nobles by Rimsky-Korsakov
  • Overture to “Candide” by Bernstein
  • The Liberty Bell by Sousa

If you are interested in visiting a rehearsal of the Dordt College Campus-Community Band, they take place in the band room Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 PM. Prospective students are encouraged to apply for scholarships and to submit an audition form. More information can also be found in the syllabus or in Dordt's catalog.
