SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN

Randy Poel Memorial Scholarship

Norman and Lucille Poel fund this scholarship in loving memory of their son Randy Poel. This scholarship will be awarded to a student accepted into the teacher education program who intends to teach biology or other natural sciences in a high school. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or junior.

Dordt College Alumni Association Scholarships

The Dordt College Alumni Association awards scholarships to three second-semester juniors to be used for their senior year. Students in any area of study at Dordt College with a 3.25 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Applicants must submit a 2-3 page essay as outlined on the scholarship application form. Essay finalists will be asked to do a personal interview with the Alumni Association board.

Bloemendaal Organ Scholarship

David and Joyce Bloemendaal fund this scholarship for a continuing Dordt College student One $300 scholarship is awarded each year to a student entering the sophomore, junior or senior year, who shows Christian commitment and contribution to church organ music programs as well as the Dordt College organ music program. The recipients are not required to major in music, need not be a music major; however, a 2.50 minimum cumulative GPA is required. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

James Koldenhoven Theatre Arts Scholarship

Dr. James Koldenhoven, Professor of Theater Arts, Emeritus 1997 and friends established this scholarship for a student pursuing a theatre arts area of study, although not necessarily a theatre arts major. Academic success will be considered, but potential and participation in theatre arts will be more important than GPA. Freshmen, sophomores or juniors can apply.

Jeffrey A. Alons Theatre Arts Scholarship

The family of Jeffrey A. Alons established this scholarship in his memory. Jeff graduated from Dordt College in 1986 with a theater arts and English major. He worked in professional theater until his death in 1995. This $500 scholarship is for a student pursuing a theatre arts area of study, although not necessarily a theatre arts major. Academic success will be considered, but potential and participation in theatre arts will be more important than GPA. Freshmen, sophomores or juniors can apply.

John and Reona Reinsma Organ Scholarship

This scholarship, established by Gerald Reinsma in honor of his parents, will be awarded to a student who contributes to church music programs as well as the Dordt College music programs. Applicants need not be majoring in music; however, they must be able to demonstrate performance ability in the area of organ music.

Len and Lee Rhoda Women’s Basketball Scholarship

Len Rhoda, Professor of Physical Education Emeritus 2005 and his wife Lee wish to encourage students who have or will make a significant contribution to the Dordt College Women’s Basketball Program. Recipients must have a 2.50 cumulative GPA. The Dordt College Women’s Basketball Coach and the Dordt College Director of Athletics will select the recipients.

Ringerwole Organ Scholarship

Alvin and Lula Ringerwole, parents of Dr. Joan Ringerwole, Professor of Music, Emerita 2005 established this scholarship to support students who desire to continue studying organ music performance. Applicants will be required to play a selected list of works for a jury examination committee, and the recipient will be required to take organ lessons from a Dordt College faculty member for both semesters in which the Ringerwole Organ Scholarship monies are awarded.

Baccam Life Service Scholarship

Dordt College alumni Syla and Tanya Baccam established this scholarship to recognize and encourage students who demonstrate a lifestyle of commitment to Christ’s service in everyday life, at home and around the world. Applicants will write a short paper to portray how they live a life of service every day, and how that life service fits with their talents and goals. This scholarship is open to all majors, and although recipient selection will not be based on academic records applicants must be in good academic standing. Sophomore and junior status students may apply for this scholarship.

Benjamin H. Van Andel Memorial Scholarships

These scholarships were established with a gift from the estate of Benjamin H. Van Andel to encourage financially needy and deserving students who strongly desire to attend Dordt College for Christian higher education. To be considered for these scholarships students must be full time students in good academic standing and must have completed the FAFSA and the Dordt College Supplemental Data Form.

Bomgaars Scholarship

The Bomgaars Store funds this scholarship for a Dordt College student in good academic standing who is an employee or immediate dependent of an employee of any Bomgaars store. If there are no applicants, consideration will be given to students who live in the vicinity of a Bomgaars location. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Christian Missionary Scholarship Foundation

Dordt College students who are children of Christian Missionaries are eligible to apply for scholarships from the Christian Missionary Scholarship Foundation.

Daniel Challenge Scholarship

Jonathan and Amy Vander Vliet, two 2006 Dordt College alumni fund this scholarship to encourage students in critical thinking. Recipients will be selected based solely on essays submitted by the applicants. The essays must reflect the Dordt College reformed perspective concerning cultural engagement on a topic selected by the donors. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students who would receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year.

Dick and Hilda Addink Scholarship

Marilyn J. and William Moore have honored her parents by establishing this scholarship for financially deserving students who desire a Christian higher education degree from Dordt College. Special consideration will be given to students interested in missions, evangelism, or seminary studies. This scholarship is not automatically renewable; however a recipient may reapply and will be equally considered with other applicants each year.

Eric Eekhoff Scholarship

Two scholarships are being funded by Henry and Kathleen Eekhoff. Preference will be given to students from Montana who show involvement in college activities, service projects and volunteerism. This scholarship is open to all majors, and although recipient selection will not be based on academic records, applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5.

Gilbert and Janice Kamps Foreign Missionaries Children Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by the children of Gilbert and Janice Kamps who wish to make a Dordt College education possible for financially deserving students. Preference will be given to children of missionaries, including children of Christian relief aid workers. Recipients must be junior or senior class status during the year they receive these scholarship monies. Eligible students are automatically considered for this scholarship. Gladys Apol Scholarship For Students With Disabilities

This scholarship is funded by a family member of Gladys Apol to help Dordt College students who incur special expenses because of a disability. Applicants must be in good academic standing. Consideration will be given to the extent of the applicant’s disability and to the special expenses incurred while pursuing a college education. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Harold & Theresa De Wit International Student Scholarship

This scholarship endowment funded by Harold and Theresa De Wit, long time Dordt College supporters from Sioux Center, Iowa, intends to support students from low income countries who show a life reflective of God’s love. Preference will be given to students with a major in agriculture or political studies. Special consideration will also be given to students committed to returning to their home country upon completion of their college studies.

Jeanie E. Zinkand Memorial International Student Scholarship

Jeanie Zinkand graduated from Dordt College in 1975. When illness took her physical life, her parents Dr. John and Mary Zinkand established this scholarship for students who are citizens of countries other than the United States or Canada. Preference will be given to students from developing countries that show financial need.

JJR Upper class Leadership Scholarships

An anonymous donor funds two scholarships for Dordt College students who show strong character, Christian commitment, and leadership skills. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. These scholarships are not automatically renewed; however, a recipient who reapplies will be given equal consideration with other applicants each year.

Kasey and Karla Abbott Native American Scholarship

This scholarship is funded to financially encourage students of Native American ethnicity as they attend Dordt College. Recipients must be full time students in good academic standing. Preference may be given to Native American students majoring in nursing or a natural science subject area.

Mephibosheth Scholarships

These scholarships are available to help provide assistance to students with physical disabilities. Applicants must plan to attend or already attend Dordt College as full-time students. The number of worthy applicants will determine the dollar amount. Financial need will be considered. These scholarships are not automatically renewed; however, a recipient will be given equal consideration with other applicants each year.

Nick Verbrugge International Student Scholarship

This scholarship is available for students who are citizens of countries other than the United States or Canada. Applicants must be accepted at Dordt College as full-time students in good academic standing. Financial need will be considered.

Phoenix Heritage Scholarship

Henry and Dorothy Diekman wish to encourage an incoming freshman or a continuing Dordt College student who is a member of the Phoenix, Arizona, First Christian Reformed Church. Recipients must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and a Dordt College SDF (Supplemental Data Form.) Financial need will be considered when awarding this scholarship.

Shubeck Family Scholarship

This scholarship was funded by the Mike Shubeck family to encourage financially needy and deserving students who strongly desire to attend Dordt College for Christian higher education. To be considered for these scholarships students must be full time students in good academic standing and must have completed the FAFSA and the Dordt College Supplemental Data Form.

Sioux Center Municipal Utilities Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by the Missouri River Energy Services. All Dordt College students who are direct paying customers or are dependents of a direct paying customer of Sioux Center Municipal Utilities will automatically be considered for this scholarship. The recipient must also be a full-time student in good academic standing.

Summer Ministries Scholarships

Dordt College funds scholarships for students who desire to participate in summer mission work and therefore are not able to finance their education with normal summer employment. Applications will be due April 9.

Van Gaalen International & Minority Student Scholarship

Della Van Gaalen established this scholarship to support international students who sincerely desire Christian higher education, however find that significant financial need makes it difficult to continue their education at Dordt College. If no international students are eligible for this scholarship, a North American minority student may be selected.

The Vander Haag family from Sanborn, Iowa has established a scholarship fund to encourage Dordt College students who are citizens of countries other than the United States or Canada. Financial need will be considered.

Vogel Paint Scholarship

Vogel Paint in Orange City, Iowa funds this scholarship for a full-time Dordt College student. First preference will be given to Vogel Paint or Iowa State Bank employees or their immediate dependents. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to achieve their academic goals and show evidence of a sincere Christian faith and character. Availability is dependent on annual funding.

Al Mennega Honors Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Al Mennega, Professor of Biology, Emeritus 2000, for students who are in a premedical or related health care professional program at Dordt College. Special consideration will be given to applicants who show strong aptitude and motivation for service in medicine, dentistry and optometry. Recipients must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be continuing students entering their junior or senior year.

Anne Heyns De Beer Music Education Scholarship

Dr. Karen De Mol, Professor of Music at Dordt College has established this scholarship in honor of her mother. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Assink Church Music Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Brent and Janice Assink. Applicants must be sophomore or junior students, but do not need to be majoring in music. Applicants must show evidence of musicianship, leadership, and understanding of and passion for worship according to reformed principles.

Assink Secondary Education Science Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Brent and Janice Assink. Applicants must intend to be secondary education science teachers with special consideration given to biology majors.

B.J. & Deborah Haan Teacher Education Scholarship

Deborah Haan established this scholarship to encourage students majoring in education. Applicants must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or junior.

Ben and Mathilda Vos Sustainable Agriculture/Family Farm Scholarship

The children of Ben and Mathilda Vos established this scholarship in honor of their parents. This scholarship is available for students majoring in a four-year agriculture program other than agri-business. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year, and must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant’s understanding of sustainable agriculture/family farms and how they see their future involvement in that area.

Boot Family Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is available for a student who has been accepted into a Dordt College approved, full semester study abroad semester. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a foreign language class during their study abroad semester. Special consideration will also be given to applicants with sophomore and junior class status. Application deadline is May 1.

Calvin Jongsma Mathematics Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial support for mathematics majors who intend to teach mathematics at some level, from middle school to university, and who desire to promote a broad contextual vision of the meaning and role of mathematics in a life of Christian discipleship. Applicants must be sophomore or junior students with a minimum GPA of 3.25 when they apply.

Carol Lee Zylstra Memorial Church Music Scholarship

This scholarship is available as a result of gifts from Gerrit and Carol Lee Zylstra. Applicants must be Dordt College students who have good academic standing and who show commitment and contribution in the area of church music, particularly organ music. Applicants may be, but are not required to be church music majors. This scholarship is not automatically renewable; however a recipient may reapply and will be equally considered with other applicants each year.

Carrie Foods Special Effort Scholarships for Business Students

Two scholarships are available each year. Applicants must have a 2.00 cumulative GPA and must be majoring in business administration. It is important that the applicants do scholastic work above the level that would ordinarily be expected of them. This does not necessarily reward those students who earn excellent grades, but rather those who put forth extraordinary effort to obtain their grades. Only freshmen students may apply to receive the scholarship monies for their sophomore year.

CDR Student Encouragement Scholarship

Anonymous donors wish to promote the teacher education major at Dordt College. Recipients must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program. It is the donors’ wish that the recipients teach at a Christian elementary or high school.

Cecil W. and Betty D. Byerly Agri-business Scholarship

Cecil and Betty Byerly fund this scholarship to promote Dordt’s agri-business major program. All agri-business major students from all class levels, with a 2.50 cumulative GPA may apply for this scholarship

Cella Bosma Teacher Education Scholarship

This scholarship has been established in memory of Cella Bosma, who was a professor at Dordt College. Applicants who intend to teach internationally or in a school with diverse populations of students will be given preference in the recipient selection process.

Chemistry Faculty Honors Scholarship

Russell and Jean Maatman established this scholarship. This scholarship intends to give recognition and encouragement to students majoring in chemistry. Applicants must be in academic good standing in order to apply.

Chris E. Haan Memorial Scholarship for Preseminary Students

These scholarships are available for preseminary program students who have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. These scholarships can be renewed provided the recipient remains in good standing in the preseminary program.

Dallas Apol Foreign Language Scholarship

Dr. Dallas Apol Professor of Foreign Language, Emeritus 2000 established this scholarship program for students accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. First consideration will be given to applicants with a major or minor in Spanish who will be studying in a country where the language is spoken.

Daniel Oosterman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by family and friends of Daniel Oosterman, who was a preveterinary program student at Dordt College. In May 2002 after completing his freshman year, Daniel’s earthly life was ended in an automobile accident as he traveled to his home in Oakdale, California. Students who are in the Dordt College preveterinary program are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Darrel and Mary Kraayenbrink Preveterinary Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Darrel and Mary Kraayenbrink. Students entering their junior or senior year who are in the Dordt College preveterinary program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students from South Dakota.

Dieleman Pre-Professional Health Programs Scholarships

Two Pre-Professional Health Programs Scholarships are funded by Ed and Joyce Dieleman. The scholarship selection committee will give first preference to pre-pharmacy program applicants. However pre-dental, pre-optometry, pre-medical, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy program students are also encouraged to apply.

Dieleman Preseminary Student Scholarships

Two Pre-Seminary Student Scholarships are funded by Ed and Joyce Dieleman. Recipients must be members of the Dordt College Preseminary Program and must be endorsed by the program‘s faculty members. Continuing students from all class levels may apply for these scholarships.

Dordt College Foreign Language Department Scholarship

One scholarship is available for a student who has been accepted into a Dordt College approved study-abroad program. Applicants should intend to study or use a foreign language during their study abroad semester. Preference will be given to students with a foreign language major or minor. Application deadline is May 1.

Dordt College Heritage Agriculture Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is for agriculture majors. Applicants must be classified as a sophomore or junior student with a 3.00 cumulative GPA. A recipient may reapply and could potentially receive this scholarship for a second year.

Dordt College Social Work Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a social work major. Recipients are selected on the basis of grade point average, financial need, general academic interest, and commitment to the field of social work. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Douglas and Henrietta Ribbens Elementary Education Scholarships

These scholarships are funded by Dr. Douglas Ribbens, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Emeritus 1992 and Henrietta Ribbens who wish to encourage and support students majoring in elementary education. Recipients must be accepted for admissions to the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and must be junior or senior status students during the year they receive the scholarship monies. Recipients may receive this scholarship for more than one year. Six scholarships will be awarded. Eligible students are automatically considered for these scholarships.

E. John and Alyda Kosters Science Scholarship

John J. Kosters funds this scholarship in honor of his parents. Applicants can be majoring in biology, chemistry, environmental studies, physics or astronomy. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year with a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.

EDA, Inc. Engineering Scholarships

EDA, Inc.in Sioux Center funds two engineering scholarships; one will be awarded to an electrical engineering major and the other to a mechanical engineering major. Applicants must have junior class status and have a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to applicants who have a special interest in HVAC or in commercial electrical design. The availability of these scholarships is dependent on annual funding.

Farm Credit Services of America Scholarship

Farm Credit Services of America of Omaha, Nebraska has committed to fund two scholarships for sophomore students majoring in agriculture. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and plan to use their agriculture major to serve their rural community and perhaps return to the farm or ranch. Preference will be given to residents of Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming.

First National Bank Business Scholarship

One scholarship funded by the Sioux Center First National Bank is available for a full time Dordt College student majoring in business administration or accounting. Applicants must also have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Foreign Candy Company Study Abroad Scholarships

The Foreign Candy Company in Hull, Iowa and Mr. Peter De Yager established this scholarship program for students who have been accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. Recipients will be selected on academic ability, interest in continuing in the study of or work in a foreign language, and financial need. Application deadline is May 1.

Frank and Irene Feikema Agriculture Scholarship

This scholarship endowment has been established by Irene Feikema who with memories of her husband Frank, wishes to support Dordt College students majoring in agriculture. Applicants must be continuing students and must have a 2.50 cumulative GPA to apply for this scholarship.

Garry and Delores Zonnefeld Christian Education Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Zonnefeld fund this scholarship for a teacher education major who can articulate their belief in distinctive Christian teaching. Applicants must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program and must be third year students who will receive the scholarship during their senior year at Dordt College.

Gary and Donna Doppenberg Animal Science Scholarships

The Doppenbergs fund these scholarships for students intending to major in agriculture with an emphasis in animal science and large animal nutrition. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship is not automatically renewed each year; however a recipient may reapply as a continuing student each year and will be considered equally with the other continuing student applicants. A total of 4 scholarships are available each year for incoming freshmen and/or continuing students.

Good Shepherd Scholarship

Donald Nibbelink funded this scholarship for teacher education students. This scholarship is for students who are majoring or minoring in special education. Applicants must be classified as sophomore or junior status and be accepted in the teacher education program.

GROWMARK Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through funding by the Glenn Web Education Fund/GROWMARK Foundation. Applicants must be majoring in agriculture, agri-business ag-education, or plant science. Second and third year students may apply to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year.

Henry and Sadie Buteyn Family Teacher Education Scholarship

The family of Henry and Sadie Buteyn fund this scholarship. It is available for a sophomore or junior status student who is accepted in the teacher education program at Dordt College. The applicant must show a strong commitment to Christian education.

Henry De Groot Business Administration Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by business administration and accounting degree alumni of Dordt College. It is named in honor of Henry De Groot who was a business professor at Dordt College for many years. This scholarship is given to an outstanding student majoring in accounting, business administration, or business education. The award is based on evidence of scholarship, Christian commitment, and an interest in service through the administration of a non-profit organization, teaching of accounting, professional accounting, public relations, or advertising

Herbert and Bernace Korthuis Communication and Digital Media Production Scholarships

Mr. and Mrs. Korthuis established this scholarship program for continuing Dordt College students who major in communication or digital media production. Special consideration will be given to applicants interested in journalism as a career.

Heritage Communication Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student majoring in communication. Communication course work and involvement in communication activities will be a consideration in the recipient selection process.

Heritage HHP Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student who is a HHP (Health and Human Performance) major. Applicant must be in good academic standing and show leadership and service in the HHP area.

Heritage Teacher Education Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student who is an education major. Applicant must be in good academic standing and show leadership and service in the education area.

Herman and Cora De Jong Teacher Education Scholarship

Dennis and Pamala De Jong fund this scholarship in honor of his parents and their commitment to Christian education. Recipients must be a secondary education major and /or a middle school classroom minor, and must be accepted or provisionally accepted for admission to the Dordt College Teacher Education Program. Financial need will be a consideration in the recipient selection process.

Interstates Companies Computer Science Scholarship

Interstate Companies in Sioux Center, Iowa funds this scholarship for students majoring in computer science. Applicants are required to have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Interstates Companies Electrical Engineering Scholarship

Interstates Companies in Sioux Center, Iowa funds this scholarship for a student majoring in engineering. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must demonstrate special aptitude and potential for a career in electrical engineering.

Jack Grotenhuis Memorial Scholarship

This $1,200 scholarship is funded by Dale Grotenhuis, Professor of Music, Emeritus 1994 and his wife Eleanor in memory of their son Jack who was a Dordt College music major alumnus. Applicants must be awarded to a student who is specifically interested in studying voice with the music department. Applicants do not have to be music majors and can be freshmen, sophomore, or junior class status. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

James Albert Klaver Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family of James Albert Klaver funded this scholarship program in his memory. James graduated from Dordt College in 2003 and soon after lost his struggle with cancer. This scholarship is available for students majoring in theology with a youth ministries emphasis. A cumulative 3.00 GPA is required.

Janet Andre’ Bootsma Scholarships for Women Students in Business

These scholarships were established by Dr. Kenneth Bootsma to encourage women students with entrepreneurial, for-profit business interests and a generous heart for others, as was exemplified in the life of Jan (nee Roelfsema) Bootsma. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be second or third year students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year. Two scholarships will be awarded.

Jill Vander Zee Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is funded in memory of Jill Vander Zee, daughter of Dr. Delmar Vander Zee, Professor of Biology, Emeritus 2009 and his wife Lois. On an every other year basis students with a music or art major or minor may apply for this scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Joe J. Dahm Memorial Music Scholarships

Three scholarships are awarded each year, one each to a sophomore, a junior, and a senior. Recipient selection is based on music scholarship and contribution to the music program at Dordt College.

This scholarship is available to students majoring in agriculture or agri-business. Applicants must be full-time Dordt College students with a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Business Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Bonnema established several scholarships to encourage Dordt College students in various majors. This scholarship encourages students to demonstrate Christian commitment and principles in the area of business or accounting. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required. One scholarship is available.

John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Music Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Bonnema established several scholarships to encourage Dordt College students in various majors. This scholarship encourages students to demonstrate Christian commitment and principles in the area of teacher education. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required. Two scholarships are available.

John Bosma Memorial Scholarship

G. James Bosma and James D. Bosma established this scholarship in memory of John Bosma who dedicated his entire life to Christian education as a teacher and as a founder of the Nation Union of Christian Schools. Applicants must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and will be expected to have a strong commitment to Christian education.

Jonathan Ross Kooima Memorial Scholarship

Gary Rensink funded this scholarship in memory of his nephew Jonathan Ross Kooima, who was a 2006 Dordt College freshman student from Ridgecrest, California. This scholarship will be awarded to an engineering major with special consideration given to applicants who are members of the Kuyper Scholars Program.

Ken Venhuizen Social Work Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student who shows what it means to be a Christian in the social work profession. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status who is accepted into the social work program with a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Larry & Bonnie Oberloh Education Scholarship

Heath and Amy Oberloh fund this scholarship for teacher education students. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year. Financial need will be a consideration in the recipient selection process. Eligible students are automatically considered for this scholarship.

Link Manufacturing, Ltd. Engineering Scholarship

Link Manufacturing, Ltd. in Sioux Center, Iowa supports this scholarship for students majoring in mechanical engineering. A recipient can be a third-, fourth-, or fifth-year student at Dordt College. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate good leadership skills and maturity in both academic and extracurricular activities. A personal interview with the president and general manager of Link Manufacturing may be required during the selection process. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Louis and Tina Van Dyke History Scholarship

Louis and Tina Van Dyke established this scholarship to encourage students majoring in history. Applicants must be sophomores or juniors to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year. A 3.30 cumulative GPA is also required.

Lyle and Marlene Bleeker Engineering Scholarship

Lyle and Marlene Bleeker from St. Paul, Minnesota established this scholarship program to encourage Dordt College students majoring in engineering. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students who would receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required, and special preference may be given to female applicants.

Martin Seven Classics Scholarship

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. This scholarship is available for students who major in one of the following areas: history, philosophy, theology, or individual studies. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required.

Grade point average, communication course work and involvement in communication activities will be considered during the recipient selection process.

Two scholarships are available for students majoring in English. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year. Recipients are selected based on submitted writing samples completed within the previous twelve months.

Martin Seven HHP Scholarship

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. One scholarship is available for a Dordt College student who is majoring in HHP (Health and Human Peformance). Applicant must be a junior class status student in good academic standing who shows leadership and service in the HHP area.

Mike Vanden Bosch English Scholarship

The children of Dr. Mike Vanden Bosch, Professor of English, Emeritus 2000 established this scholarship to celebrate his retirement. One scholarship is awarded to an English major who is in the teacher education program and intends to pursue a career as an English teacher. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a continuing student entering their junior or senior year.

Mildred M. Dupon Memorial Music Education Scholarship

John A. and Merrie Beth Den Boer have established this scholarship in honor of her mother. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Minnie Julia Dahm Scholarships for Medical Technology Students

Three scholarships are available annually. All medical technology students are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to applications from students who will be entering their junior year. Recipients must have a 3.00 minimum GPA and must demonstrate an understanding and application of Christian principles in the area of medical technology.

Nick R. Van Til Scholarship

Nick R. Van Til, Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus established this scholarship for students majoring in one the following areas: history, philosophy or theology. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is also required. Recipients will be selected on the basis of grade point average, general academic interest, academic potential and life goals.

Oostra, Bierma, and Van Engen P.L.C. Prelaw Scholarship

Oostra, Bierma and Van Engen P.L.C. funds this scholarship for a full-time Dordt College student who plans to attend law school. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students who would receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA and membership in the Dordt College Prelegal program are requirements for application.

Pella Business Scholarship

Pella Corporation funds this scholarship for a student who has a 3.00 cumulative GPA and is majoring in accounting or business administration. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year.

Pella Engineering Scholarship

Pella Corporation funds this scholarship for a student who has a 3.00 cumulative GPA and is majoring in engineering. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

R.J. Dykstra Scholarship for Business Administration Students

Mr. R. J, Dykstra, who was a valued employee of the Dordt College Business Office, established this scholarship in 1974. Applicants must be a business administration major, and have a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Students must be sophomore or junior status students to receive this scholarship for their junior or senior year. Recipient selection will consider the applicants’ Christian commitment, evidence of scholarship and communication skills.

Ralph and Cornelia Gritters Business Scholarship

Anna M. Tiemeyer supports this scholarship in honor of her parents. One scholarship is awarded to a business or accounting major. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a full-time student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.

Ralph Jennings Memorial Construction Management Scholarship

Jeanne Jennings has established this scholarship in memory of her husband Ralph. Recipients must be majoring in construction management or in business administration with a construction management emphasis. Students from all class levels, in good academic standing are eligible. First preference may be given to students who are Iowa residents.

Richard and Hendrika Zwart Scholarship

The children of Richard and Hendrika Zwart established this scholarship. This scholarship intends to give recognition and encouragement to students majoring in one of the physical sciences. To be eligible, a student must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to an applicant who intends to become a teacher in physics, chemistry, or physical science. This scholarship may also be awarded to non-teacher education applicants who intend to major in physics or chemistry.

Robert and Lois Vermeer Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship endowment was established by Mr. and Mrs. Vermeer; it is meant to benefit Dordt College students with career goals in the area of engineering. Continuing students, majoring in engineering with a 3.00 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Robyn Agriculture Scholarship

This scholarship endowment has been established by Art and Mary Robyn. They wish to support Dordt College students majoring in agriculture with an emphasis in animal or plant science. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship is not automatically renewed each year; however a recipient may reapply as a continuing student each year and will be considered equally with the other continuing student applicants.

Ron and Jo Ritsema Elementary Education Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Ritsema fund this scholarship for a Dordt College student who is majoring in elementary education. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be accepted into the teacher education program. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Roossien Organ Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by David Roossien. It will be awarded to a student who has partipated contributes to church music programs as well as the Dordt College music programs. Applicants need not be majoring in music; however, they must be able to demonstrate performance ability in the area of organ music.

Sid and Carol Verdoorn Foundation Teacher Education Scholarships

Ten scholarships are funded each year by the Sid and Carol Verdoorn Foundation. Recipients must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and must be able to show and articulate their commitment to Christian education excellence through their college class work and their written scholarship application materials. It is the donors’ wish that the recipients teach at a Christian elementary or high school.

Smith Business Information Systems Scholarship

Leonard and Judith Smith fund this scholarship for a business administration major. Special consideration will be given to students with an information systems emphasis. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a full-time student entering the sophomore, junior or senior year. Availability of scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Stan and Nancy Speer Music Education Scholarship

Stan and Nancy Speer have established this scholarship. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Steensma Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Mr. Henry J. Steensma from Sanborn, Iowa. It is available for a Dordt College student majoring in engineering. Special consideration may be given to applicants who have financial or personal circumstances that make completing a college degree especially difficult.

Steensma Music Scholarship

Peter and Tena Steensma established this scholarship for a Dordt College student majoring in music. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Selection criteria include scholarship, leadership character and Christian commitment.

Susan Breems Nursing Scholarship

David Breems funds this scholarship in memory of his wife Susan, a loving and caring nurse for 35 years who passed away November 2009 from cancer. Susan was passionate about the need and importance of Christian nurses. Applicants for this scholarship must be accepted in the Dordt College Nursing Program, have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be able to demonstrate and articulate the definition of a Christian nurse.

Syne and Judy Altena Track and Field Scholarship

Dr. Syne Altena, Professor of Health, PE, Recreation Emeritus 2007 and his wife Judy established this scholarship for a student who has or will make a significant contribution to the Dordt College Track and Field Program. A 2.50 cumulative GPA is required. The Dordt College Track and Field Coach and the Dordt College Director of Athletics will select the recipient.

Talsma Memorial Premedical Scholarship

Mrs. Amelia Talsma, from Hawarden, Iowa bequested funds to establish two Dordt College scholarships for sophomore or junior premedical students with a 3.50 cumulative GPA. A student may apply and receive this scholarship for more than one year.

Teachers of Underprivileged Children Scholarship

This scholarship is made available by Helen Laack, who wishes to encourage Dordt College students intending to teach in a school for economically or socially underprivileged children. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be accepted into the teacher education program.

Value Added Pork Scholarship

Marv Rietema and Ted Hengeveld have funded this scholarship for agriculture students. Preference will be given to students interested in swine. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Van Zanten Urban Ministry Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2005 to honor and extend the ministry of Rev. Tony and Donna Van Zanten. The Barnabas Foundation manages this scholarship fund on behalf of Roseland Christian Ministries. If you are/will be doing collegiate or post graduate work for urban ministries you may be eligible for this scholarship. College ministry interns, pastors doing seminary work, urban planners, musicians, and teachers have all benefited from this scholarship. Applications are available through May 1.

The Vander Ark family wishes to honor its many family members who have so greatly contributed to the profession of teacher education. Two scholarships are available for students who are accepted into the teacher education program at Dordt College. Applicants must show strong commitment to teaching in a Christian grade or high school.

VanderHaag Study Abroad Scholarship

The Vander Haag family from Sanborn, Iowa has established this scholarship program for students who have been accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. Application deadline is May 1.

Vermeer Engineering and Computer Science Intern Scholarships

Two scholarships are available for computer science, management information systems or engineering majors who have successfully completed or are currently enrolled in a formal internship program. Recipients must be classified as junior or senior students for the year they receive this scholarship.

Viss Mathematics and Science Scholarship

Charles and Gertrude Viss fund this scholarship to encourage students majoring in mathematics and science. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required.
