At Dordt College, every course is about understanding God’s word and our proper response to it. Yet within that context, theology has a unique position. Rather than the queen of the sciences, theology at Dordt is a servant, preparing the way for the study of every discipline. For instance, it is through a required theology class - Perspectives in Biblical Theology - that every student who attends Dordt gains a better understanding of how the Bible is the foundation for all their academic work.
Since theology provides insight into how we live and relate to one another, you’ll find a major in theology valuable in a number of career areas. While the majority of our graduates are pastors, youth pastors, missionaries, and teachers, others have gone into social work or counseling, become journalists, entered the business world, or pursued graduate work in another field, including law and medicine.
Not only do students majoring in theology represent diverse interests and goals, students with a wide range of other majors can also be found in theology classes. Because many students take theology courses out of personal interest rather than as part of a formal program, you’ll find theology classes a wonderful place to interact with students from across campus and learn from the insights they bring from their disciplines.
