Lifting Weights

H.H.P students may specialize in one of several emphases:

Six core H.H.P courses plus five Core courses required of all Dordt students give H.H.P majors a broad background shaped by a strong Christian worldview. They are able to choose from a variety of electives to fit their emphasis.

There are many opportunities on campus to be involved in the H.H.P department. Some students work as student trainers for the department and the athletic teams; others help teach H.H.P activity classes. Some coordinate the intramural program on campus or work in the recreation center. Many play on one or more intramural teams, and one class goes into elementary school classrooms to help lead sessions.

H.H.P majors can serve as assistant coaches for athletic teams and sometimes find opportunities to coach in local schools. Our students also help test Special Olympic athletes in soccer, basketball, and track.

Pre-Physical Therapy Program

Physical therapists help clients develop, maintain, and restore maximum movement and functional ability when those abilities are threatened by aging, injury, disease, or environmental factors. You may select any major, but the following pre-professional courses must be completed:

Since particular requirements can vary by school, you will need to contact the physical therapy school of your choice early in your college career to plan your program. Pre-physical therapy advisor, Dr. Craig Stiemsma, professor of health, physical education, and recreation, will work closely with you to plan your program. His email address is craigs@dordt.edu.
