HISTORY
Program Options
Possible tracks for the History Program are as follows:
-
Pre-Law
The pre-law track introduces students to the concepts and skills needed for future legal studies. Students develop their writing, speaking, analyzing, and researching abilities in preparation for graduate studies. They can also join the Pre-Law Club and share their interest with other students.
-
Museum Studies
This emphasis is designed to help students begin preparing for a career in museum studies in vocations such as curator, program director, or collections manager. Students also experience the field firsthand through an internship at a museum or historical site.
-
International Development
Students who choose this track will take courses in several subject areas such as theology, environmental studies, and political studies in order to introduce them to the complex network of issues of working with government and non-government organizations, non-profit groups, and relief programs.
-
Administration/Management
This course of study combines the critical reading, writing, and speaking skills developed within the history program with specific training in management and administration to equip students for a career in the corporate world. They can expand their possibilities and find areas of interest by signing up for an internship.
Students may also consider combining one of the following majors with a history major:
-
Education
This path is not only for future teachers. A combined degree in education and history also can lead to a career in corporate training or to a variety of research positions. For students who plan to teach history at the middle school or high school level, contact the Education Department for more information on obtaining teaching credentials.
-
Digital Media
The combination of these two majors provides a blend of the creative and analytic abilities needed for thought-provoking films, commercials, TV shows, and critiques. Students learn the necessary skills for creating historical documentaries or for becoming professional film critics.
-
International Relations
Adding a political studies minor to a history degree helps prepare students for many opportunities in politics. There are several off-campus programs that can enrich both history and international relations studies.
