CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Overview
An automobile factory, a secure super-computing facility, a subway line, a wastewater treatment plant—these are examples of projects that were completed on time and on budget thanks to a professional construction manager, according to the Construction Management Association of America.
Construction management is a rapidly growing profession. In the past, construction managers were simply expected to implement plans drawn up by others. Increasingly, however, they have become important decision-makers on teams that build the structures and facilities we will use for decades to come. Construction managers coordinate the efforts of architects, engineers, business leaders, city planners, civic administrators, site managers, laborers, and subcontractors.
Dordt College is one of few Christian colleges to offer a construction management program. Our multi-discipline, integrated program is the perfect fit for a profession that requires you to know many different things. We’ll challenge you to think about how to develop our world responsibly, considering the role of time and resources in management of the construction process, the role of justice in relationships on the worksite, the importance of servant leadership that allows all workers to use the gifts they were given, and the importance of integrity and ethical decision-making, prioritizing service for God’s kingdom over profit.
