BIOTECHNOLOGY
Program Options
Since biotechnology is a broad field that intersects with several majors, Dordt College has designed an innovative interdisciplinary program with a choice of emphases in five distinct areas:
- Agriculture: Biotechnology provides foundational training for students desiring to work in agricultural applications of biotechnology.
- Biology: Molecular Biology and Biotechnology provides students with background and training in laboratory techniques that are used in biotechnology.
- Business: Biotechnology provides students with a science background in addition to their business courses, to equip them for work in the biotechnology industry.
- Computer Science: Bioinformatics provides students with a basic introduction to biological systems, along with the understanding of computer information systems and mathematics necessary to serve in the field of bioinformatics.
- Engineering: Biomedical is offered by the engineering department for students interested in a biomedical or biotechnology-related field as an engineer.
Internships at local biotechnology firms and molecular biology laboratories are also available to a limited number of students.
