Administrative Assistant Program
Class

Agood test of a program is noting the career progression of graduates a few years after receiving their degree. Surveys of Dordt College administrative assistant graduates indicate they have enjoyed their work and often successfully advanced into challenging positions of responsibility and supervision, becoming key employees in a variety of business environments. Job titles for these alumni range from administrative assistant to executive secretary, office manager, legal secretary, or personnel assistant.

As you make your choice from an abundance of administrative assistant programs, you’ll note that very few allow you to spend two pivotal years on the campus of a Christian liberal arts college. At Dordt College, while learning your vocation you’ll enjoy the Christian community of new friends who are training to be engineers, teachers, accountants, healthcare providers, etc. Along with your degree you will take with you friendships that last a lifetime and a new sense of God’s calling in your life choices.

Taking courses such as English, history, theology, and communication are an important part of your training. Knowing how to think critically, understand issues, and articulate your values not only makes you a stronger person, but also a more confident and capable employee. Employers want intelligent and responsible problem solvers who are able to take initiative in their work.

At Dordt you will receive top-notch technical training. Our instructors have many years of experience both in the classroom and in the field. Excellent facilities allow most of our classes to be taught in a classroom computer lab that enables each student to use a personal computer as a tool, just as they will in the workplace. Computer equipment is up-to-date, running Microsoft Office and other business applications. Labs are networked and internet-enabled to allow easy access to information, communication, and your personal data files.

We are committed to keeping our curriculum up-to-date. Each year the department surveys alumni to find out what programs and equipment they are using in the workplace. We want our students to have the tools to go out and apply their skills to the job they enter.
