Biology Program

Understanding the world of biology is increasingly important in everyday life. Everything from genomics, ecological stresses, new medicines, to biofuels have their foundation in biology. That being the case, Christian influences in the life sciences are needed now more than ever before.

At Dordt College the study of biology is seen as the study of God’s creation, a starting point from which you will grow to understand how God’s will for his creation offers real hope for bringing healing and wholeness to the world’s life support systems.

Studying with dedicated and enthusiastic Christian scientists, you’ll learn about the nature of living things; how different creatures interact within the planet’s ecosystem; and how to become a caring steward of creation.

Dordt College teaches biology in the context of a wider curriculum – integrating learning that places the life sciences in the broader societal and historical picture. The biology program is supported by courses in related sciences, such as chemistry and physics – all carried out in the college’s fine facilities. You will benefit from field studies in many local ecosystems including the new Kuhl Ecosystem Preserve adjacent to campus.

Opportunities to study and do research at off-campus sites are available including the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies which offers summer courses and field work both nationally and internationally. We have also established internship liaisons with several research agencies.
