Aspire Program

What is the purpose of the Aspire Program?

The Aspire Program helps students develop new strategies and skills for learning through Academic Skills (ASK) seminars, academic counseling, and peer tutoring.

How are students selected for the Aspire Program?

Inclusion into the program is determined by the Director of Admissions in consultation with the Director of the ASK Center and is based on high school grades, courses, and ACT/SAT scores.

How does Dordt determine the areas in which a student may need help?

Students admitted into the Aspire Program will receive further information on the requirements for their individual situation from the ASK Center and the Office of the Registrar. All students in the Aspire Program will be required to take ASK 090: College Success Seminar.

Students' ACT/SAT scores in mathematics and English/writing skills may indicate that they also need to take Math 100: Mathematics for College and/or English 100: Basic Writing for College Students. These courses are required for those with ACT math and/or English scores below 18 or SAT writing and/or math scores below 460.

Math 100 and English 100 are designed to provide intensive instruction in these basic college competencies with support from TA-led lab sessions

What assistance is offered to students who are enrolled in the Aspire Program?

  • A reduced course load in their first semester of attendance
  • Assessments in reading and learning skills during orientation
  • Peer tutoring in many core courses
  • Enrollment in ASK 090: College Success Seminar
  • Academic & career counseling
  • Periodic conferences with ASK Center staff to monitor progress and support changes to more effectively study strategies.
